The island of Roatan is home to fascinating aquatic life, not to mention the second largest barrier reef in the world. Here you can get certified as a dive instructor or just enjoy a new underwater experience on fun dives. Resorts are plentiful and cater to a variety of vacationers.
For the certified diver, advanced training courses include: “Advanced Open Water”, “Rescue Diver” or “Master Scuba Diver” or move into the PADI Pro area with a Divemaster Internship or choose from a wide range of PADI specialty classes. Roatán offers some of the best diving in the world, due to the reef being only minutes away from the shoreline also it is a very economic place to learn to dive.
There are many diving facilities throughout Roatán; the busiest are on the North shore at West End and West Bay. For the less frequented dive sites go to Bare Foot Divers, Fantasy Island, Coco View, or Islander Diving for south shore diving, or Turquoise Bay and Marble Hill Farms for more north shore diving. Diving, along with other water activities are extremely popular due to the quality of the reef around Roatán. Do not miss the opportunity to dive the second largest barrier reef in the world. But beware, diving can become addictive. Many of the divers living in Roatán were once tourists who never left, due to the beauty of the reef.
Your first experience with scuba diving begins with a “Discover Scuba” course. To be certified it is required that you to take an “Open Water” course. To get your Open Water Certification faster; PADI offers an eLearning online course, and the Universal Referral Program, which helps you to complete some of your training at home prior to your vacation. If you are certified and need a quick “Scuba Refresher”, the class takes just a couple of hours and leaves you comfortable for the rest of your diving vacation.
